A young man at work the other day told me he was going to part with $250 for a multi- personality assessment.
I said, “ what, you have a split personality now?” He laughed and said “ No, I mean a reading, based on your birthday, which includes the most popular forms of astrological forecasting. Not just the zodiac but Chinese, numerology, tarot, Vedic astrology, vocational analysis. I told him if he did not finish the drawings by lunch there would be some vocational analysis for him to worry about.
Any way at morning break he told me that he met a psychic healer at the mind body spirit festival. That for $ 250 she was going to put this multi thing together for him. I could see the lust in his eyes, poor fool was infatuated. Who was I to tell him his investment was not going to get him what he wanted or deserved. I left it alone and went back to work.
Astrology and divination are always amusing at a minimum. Self reflection whether through your own assessment, the scriptures or assessment by horoscopes and forms of divination is always appealing and interesting. This is because you are considering information that applies, to you. This requires you to reflect about your self, your situation, your hopes, dreams, desires, does it work for you, or does it not. Looking within, is at the core of all religion and religious belief; no wonder something like astrology can have such a hold on society.
Horoscopes and astrology have become common place in our society and many have adopted the daily ritual of reading their forecast. It is fun and it is for the most part, not hurting anyone. A good horoscope writer can make a phrase fit anyone or any situation perfectly. A bad horoscope writer leaves their audience confused trying to figure out a cryptic puzzle.
There are heaps of astrological forecasts available on the net. I have checked out a few. Some are pretty lame. The Astrologers image has changed over the years. I can remember the carnival worker astrologist from the days gone by. The crystal ball on the table, the palmistry, tarot cards. They could guess your age and your brothers name, all for 5 dollars.
You left the tent feeling happy, entertained and quite positive, as the astrological readings always involved flattery about ones brilliance and astute manner. So amazing how we all respond to a bit of sensitivity, expressions of interest about us and our lives. It was really fun, but you remembered it was a carnie worker at the fair.
I have been reading horoscopes in the news papers for 40 years. I have studied theological subjects for as long. I believe science to be the basis for all discussion, but also believe in things divine.
If the moon and stars can create cycles of ebb & flow in the oceans. If solar flares can cause fire storms to erupt on earth. It is natural to assume that the heavens are affecting humanity. The important question is by what method do we chart these effects.
Astrologers have spent a life times observing people, nature and the heavens. They consider themselves clergy, scientists and philosophers. Who am I to say that their endeavors are not valid.
For the sake of my young colleague, I looked around on the net for this new multi trend. I found heaps of astrological sites and places where they package divination, wisdom, healing of all sorts. From what I gathered, there are so many free daily horoscope sites now, the divination industry has moved to the multi package.
The first few sites I visited were all over $ 250.00, so as far as product and competitive pricing goes he was not doing bad at the spiritual festival. The new craze as he mentioned is to combinine all of the most popular forms of divination. Zodiac, Numerology, Chinese Horoscopes, Native American Astrology, Kabala, Tarot, Atlantean Astrology, Vedic Astrology. All specific to your birth date and place of birth.
The best site I could find for one of these multi scopes sold a $29.95 package. Ancient Book of Life .com. gives you half of the hype and twice the product of most of it's competitors, for a fraction of the cost. I purchased one of the multi scopes for my colleague , but when I gave it to him he still wanted to go see the gypsy who was asking the $ 250........I was right after all, it was LOVE!

Dabbling in the so called "spiritual" world is like playing with fire in an explosive factory, in my view, and I take that view from my Bible. Seem the books of Samuel 1 and 2 and take note of Saul's fall from grace as he sought answers from a seer. Just my thoughts on the matter and I believe anything spent on this would be money wasted.
Let's go back to the kids table for a macaroni fight LOL
God took Saul life for going to the wtich of Endor>
Thank you for this one bearclaw. I almost paid $ 200 on a site recently for something very similar. I love astrology, feng shui and just about any thing else on offer. I think it is fun. I like the idea of native american astrology. I never heard of it before.
In the spirit (pun) of things, I'll not go further and skip ahead to a good mash potato fight!
I wish you peace, knowledge and understanding.
bearclaw-
Well you are open minded at least-these things scare the wits out of me:)
I love the interaction between yourself and 50 caliber-hilarious.
two things to say here first is there is a heck of a lot of stuff we dont understand, moons create tides etc. personally astrology i believe is a lot of tripe, and a money stealing scheme as your story proves, second lamb chops are quite easily the best weapon for food fights.
I believe the "Good Book" tells us to beware of soothsayers. They'll take your money :)
Hi bearclaw . .I do like reading my horoscope. . .sometimes i like to dig a little deeper than just where my 'sun sign' is. . but generally i see it all just like it is a weather report . . what the conditions of the day are going to be like!
very interesting Hub..
I have read many artrology (horoscopes) regarding my birthdate and to be honest I would never spend that kind of dollar on a reading. They are never true for me. Great Hub!
I couldn't see myself spending money for a reading. They can be fun conversational pieces but that is as far as I go with it. Liked the read..
I don't know which I'v enjoyed the most. Your excellent hub or the criss-cross feedback with other hubbers. Great stuff!!!
I will admit I have looked at my horoscope a few times in my life, not in search but have it thrust in my face a few times, it has never even been close and I really fear God enough to stay away from it. It is like playing with fire indeed and I truly believe the bible teaches there are some out there that can forecast the future, and doesn't the bible in a sense? But we have been warned away from them and for whatever reason that is for, I plan to obey. These are not people of God. People did use stars and signs for planting etc and I think somehow the two have been entwined, to confuse and sell people on money making schemes.Satan has a counterpart for all good things. This is one of them.
Well, I am a firm believer in astrology. I know several good astrologists who don't charge that much and really know their stuff. Good astrologers don't do generic tabloid and newspaper readings. They believe that there is order and energy in all things and when you put the two together there is a lot you can tell about a person. A real astrologier can tell you things about yourself that even you don't want to admit. Also, they can't tell you the future they can only tell you the probabilities based on your past. I agree that money makeing schemes are not good for your karma.
Astrology is an ancient science that attracted even kings. Surley there must be something in it. A very interesting hub well done
I agree, a very interesting hub - including the comments! Definitely food for thought (hold those mashed potatoes...I just washed my hair:P)
Hi Bear, I paid somebody before, like soothsayer hehe, and now at times I read my horoscope, I am Asian so you know, we believe in these things, it is part of our culture, I checked the site BTW, Thnaks, Maita
I can take or leave horoscopes - personally I prefer to let the guture unravel itself - this doesn't mean I don't believe in certain things _ I just like to believe things happen because I made them happen, but good luck to the believers - just watch your money. great hub
Great hub! I think there is so much confusion about astrology and horoscopes, some people can really be duped. I do believe the planets have a huge effect on us though. Just ask any cop or ER worker about full moons and eclipses!
I think its proof enough when two people are born on the same date same time and be nothing alike. But I do think there's the thing with moon and tides and farmers knowing their stuff about that. Oh and BTW I did find the bad on canola oil so wont buy any more..thx. I do use EV olive a lot but I think I have heard cooks like Racael Rae and others say it was not good for deep frying. Thx for the info. I do all I can to stay alive.
Great hub here!! As I am a christian and within my work for God he has blessed me with a few gifts that are a tool of God. I think most horoscopes are a joke and the many that claim to be psychic too. For one that charges money to help others find God, peace and knowledge of ones self is not of good merit......even if they are gifted...as satan has followers as well and they are given gifts to captivate and entertain ya!
There seems to be something about the moon and tides..powerful stuff huh? Makes sense our bodies would respond to the pull of gravity...I just dont know all the effects and how......but one of my questions in life ......"what is the indirect effects of gravitational pull?" I shall research this too...lol
Thanks again for this well written article!

I believe that nothing good can come from wanting to know thing in such a way.Live by Gods rules and you'll know what is to be of you. Great writing.
Reading horoscope in newspapers and magazines is a common practice and most of them do not believe in those stuffs. I know peoples who spoke very badly about astrology and secretly visiting astrologers for their needs. now a days lot of people interested in numerology. The word astronomy makes me slightly uncomfortable. I said to someone once that I liked astronomy…believe it or not, they said “I don’t usually read them, I go straight to the sports pages”. anyway like your article.
Nancy Reagan seemed to rely on astrology a lot. Was never a Reagan fan, but the current GOP would go bonkers if they knew a first lady was doing that today lol. Astrology can be amusing, but I would never pay for their services.
